What comes to mind when you think of Italy? Pasta, pizza and fine wine. The rolling hills of Tuscany. The blue of the Mediterranean. The calm of the lakes. Bustling cities like Milan, Rome and Naples. The fine architecture and beautiful museums and works of art. The Opera. Or even the iconic Fiat 500’s and Vespas scooting around.

In reality, Italy is all of this and much more. It is a beautiful, vibrant country, alive with colour and variety, a real patchwork of people to meet, places to go and experiences to be had. This is the most romantic country in the world for so many people partly because its diversity means that there is a town, a mountain, a beach or a building that says something to everyone. So what is there to see in this patchwork place? Cities as varied as vibrant Naples, historic Rome, romantic Venice and elegant Milan. Landscapes ranging from the snowy peaks of the Alps and the Dolomites to the calm green surroundings of the lakes, the warm rolling hills and vineyards of Tuscany, the ragged cliffs and sheer blue waters of the Amalfi Coast and the volcanic landscape of Sicily. Whatever kind of holiday or wedding you prefer, Italy can provide it for you.

The food and wine of Italy are perhaps even more famous than its cities or its scenery. In the South, think pasta, pizza and olive oil - the traditional Mediterranean diet. Delicious ice-cream in improbable ranges of flavours, creamy buffalo mozzarella and spicy Calabrian chillies. Fresh fish, impossibly juicy tomatoes, aromatic lemons and fragrant basil. All of these combine with full bodied, spicy red wines such as Primitivo and Nero d’Avola, or light, dry whites such as Greco di Tufo and Falanghina.
In the North, you are looking at creamy risottos and polenta dishes, exceptional cured meats and mature cheeses such as Parmesan. Stuffed pasta takes precedence over flat, and most recipes call for high quality unsalted butter rather than olive oil. Herbs such as sage, rosemary and thyme give a wonderful flavour to already impossibly tender cuts of meat. Fresh water fish such as trout and perch are eaten more often here, and are normally cooked with white wine rather than lemon as in the South. Wines include peppery Chianti and earthy Valpolicella, and bubbly Prosecco. Northern wines tend to be slightly lighter than Southern ones.

Whether you decide because you want to see a particular place, because the culture of a particular area interests you, or you let your taste buds guide you is up to you, but wherever you choose to go in Italy we are sure it wont disappoint.
