Weddings in Tuscany: Chianti regionCovering a vast area of Tuscany, the Chianti area produces some of the most delicious red wines in Italy, and ergo, the world! A beautiful area to visit and a great place for wine lovers, Chianti is understandably a popular destination for tourists both from overseas and from the rest of Italy.

Chianti wine, the most famous famous product of the region, was originally made up of three different grapes:  70% Sangiovese, 15% Canaiolo and 15% Malvasia bianca. For a long time, this was the accepted mix and it was not until the 1970s that wine producers began to reduce the quantities of white grapes used and in 1995, the very first 100% Sangiovese Chianti wines appeared. Today, with the strict DOCG rules in place, wine must be at least 80% Sangiovese and come from the Chianti region itself to call itself Chianti.
The wine is a dark ruby red, with a strong scent and overtones of violet. The flavour is dry and full bodied, meaning this wine lends itself perfectly to being consumed with red meat, cheeses and game. This renders it a great partner to that great Tuscan dish the Fiorentina, a succulent steak best served rare.
The area is worth visiting not just to tour the vineyards and taste the produce however. The Chianti Hills create a beautiful backdrop with varying colours of green and gold for relaxing holidays, romantic honeymoons and intimate wedding celebrations. There are many locations in the area, in particular elegant villas which are perfect for private parties and whose staff are very experience in the organisation of top class wedding celebrations of all kinds.
Included in the Chianti region you can also find the medieval city of Siena, a beautiful walled town famous for its traditions as well as its original architecture and old world atmosphere. Another beautiful place to visit on your honeymoon or even to get married in if you would prefer a classic hotel in a tranquil city.
