A colourful, scented festival awaits those who visit the town of Genzano near Rome. This festival consists of a tapestry of flower petals on the streets, creating wonderful patterns and designs and telling a story of a moment of historic or religious significance.
There are infiorate in many different Italian towns, but the town of Genzano (3rd June 2010) holds the most famous. Dating back to 1778, it is well known for the creativity with which the residents design a new theme each year, and for the size of the floral carpet.
The scent of the flowers as the impressive Corpus Christi procession makes its way down the petal carpeted street is tremendous in the summer sun, making the whole thing a feast for the senses, worth seeing for catholics and non-catholics alike.
