Why be classic till it hurts? Instead of classic paper place cards why not to have something more original, nice and yet… tasty? Edible place cards: sweet thing you can do yourself or with help of your family.
Wedding place cards can be really beautiful, printed, handwritten or even embroidered. But they are so usual, plain and sincerely a waste of money. Why than, with a little bit of your time and huge amount of fun prepare your own cookie-place cards.
Gorgeous alternative to traditional place cards that your guests can eat or save as memento of your special day. Just the thing for DIY brides. They will be a nice sweet surprise, made just the way you want them.
You can customize them according to your own idea, your wedding style or your guests. For example you can make pink ones for ladies and pale blue for gentleman, girl shaped for your guests and man shaped ones for your future husband family. All depends from your imagination.
To prepare them you can use any biscuit recipe you want: old, traditional family recipe than only your grandmother knows, or biscuits your mom baked when you were little girl, or something you used to prepare for your fiancé.
Here we’ve got for you a very tasty, classy and yet simple recipe.
Cookie Place Card Recipe:
- 250 g of butter
- 275 g of caster sugar
- pinch of salt
- 2 medium eggs
- 500 g of flour
- one teaspoon vanilla extract
Cream together butter, sugar and salt until light and fluffy. Add eggs - one at the time - with a spoonful of flour with each egg. Add vanilla extract and flour to form dough. If too soft, wrap in tinfoil and leave in fridge for about half an hour. Roll the dough to about 3 mm thick, cut out desired shape, bake in the oven heated to 160° C for 10 - 15 minutes. When ready use colored icing to decorate them and to write names.
You can add some sugarpaste flowers, hearts, sugar pearls to give them special look you desire.
Remember: put those when icing is still fresh, otherwise they won’t stuck. When icing harden, place each one in cellophane, tie with the ribbon bow and… Your special place cards are ready!
For Christmas time wedding you can use gingerbread recipe. If so don’t wrap them in cellophane, but before baking make a hole throught which, when ready put ribbon and tie a bow.
